Sheri Hamilton Selected District Director of Elementary Education

Sheri Hamilton spent what she thought were the final seven months of her post-retirement career as Nichols Elementary School Principal until another door opened.

Please welcome her back to Bullitt County Public Schools as the new Director of Elementary Education after current director Adrienne Usher accepted the position of Assistant Superintendent for Student Learning.

“I feel very honored to have been offered the position,” Hamilton said. “I am excited to work with some very talented people. I come in to the position with a lot of experience, but I know I have a lot to learn. And, I’m excited about that.”

Her goals include working alongside principals to help support them in curriculum/instruction and student instruction.

“I also hope to be out in the field often; in each elementary school at least twice a month,” she said.

Bullitt County Public Schools Superintendent Keith Davis is exited Hamilton taken on this role.

“She is one of the best people I know,” Davis said. “She’s smart, she works hard and she does not mince words when it comes to what is best for children.”

Hamilton started her career as a teacher at Hebron Middle School, Lebanon Junction Elementary and Mt. Washington Middle School before taking time off to raise two children.

She restarted her career at Mt. Washington Elementary and taught grades K-8 (except fifth).

Hamilton said she was drawn to education because of her love of children and she truly desires to make their world a better place.

She served as Instructional Coach at Crossroads Elementary School and worked as a Highly Skilled Educator (HSE). “I was blessed to serve in that role before the state reorganized to serve students in a different capacity. During that year, I completed the work necessary to obtain my administrative certifications,” she said.”

Hamilton attained much of her education at the University of Louisville where she earned a Bachelor’s of Art in Elementary Education and Endorsement for teaching Kindergarten; Master’s degree; and Rank 1.

At Eastern Kentucky University, she has invested one year of undergraduate classes and postgraduate classes in Administration.

Hamilton is a National Board Certified Teacher and was named 2007-2008 Bullitt County Elementary School Teacher of the Year.

She and her husband, Bard, the Operations Manager for Mercer Transportation in Louisville, have two grown children.
