Prior to her new position as Youth Service Center Coordinator at Hebron and Zoneton Middle Schools, Pamela Herm spent time with Crossroads and Old Mill Elementary Schools Family Resource Center Coordinator Leigh Ann Lowery.
“I had the opportunity to shadow my son’s Family Resource Coordinator, Leigh Ann, as part of a service project for one of my graduate classes,” she said. “I quickly learned just how valuable FRYSC Coordinators are to students and their families.”
Herm has served as Targeted Case Manager for Home of the Innocents, Abundant Hope and Transformations in Louisville and at Family Options in Owensboro, KY. Prior to that, she worked in Therapeutic Child Support at Home of the Innocents and was a Mental Health Technician for Universal Health Services.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Western Kentucky University and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree.
Having previously worked as a community-based mental health case manager with at-risk children in need of intensive in-home therapy services to order maintain in the home setting, Herm said the clients she served were either in crisis or struggling with past trauma and were in need of resources and support.
“I am aware of the impact trauma can have on a family, especially the child,” she noted. “There are many factors which can inhibit a child’s ability to be successful at school. I think my previous work experience will positively impact my duties as a Youth Services Center Coordinator, because I understand that assisting families is more than just providing an immediate solution to problems…it is supporting, educating and empowering them so they can learn how to help themselves in the future.”
Herm’s short term goals are to build relationships with students, guardians, and staff, identify the needs of each school, educate people about the new Youth Services Center and the services offered.
Long term goals include continuing to build upon the strong foundation that the previous YSC Coordinator-Jennifer Lowe, built for Hebron Middle.
“I want to create that same strong foundation at the new Youth Services Center at Zoneton Middle and ultimately help to remove any barriers that interfere with a student’s ability to be successful,” she said.
Herm had words of praise for her new FRYSC colleagues.
“They have been extremely helpful and supportive,” she said. “Even though we are all at different schools, they always make time to provide guidance and support. I can tell they really enjoy their jobs. I am very excited and proud to be part of the FRYSC team.”
Herm will be at Hebron on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Friday (morning) and then at Zoneton on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday (afternoon). The telephone number at Hebron is (502)-869-4212 and at Zoneton (502)-869-4412. Her email is firstname.lastname@example.org
