Abigail Phillips Named First KY SENT Sparkler of the Week

KY SENT Sparkler

Bullitt East High School English teacher Abigail Phillips has the distinction of being named KY SENT’s first Sparkler of the Week.

Phillips was featured on the organization’s Twitter page the week of March 25. The recognition began when KY SENT (Supporting and Elevating New Teachers) put out a call for nominations.

This message is accompanied by a nomination form…“When Kentucky’s new teachers feel supported, it’s Kentucky KIDS that win. Support and elevate a new teacher you know! Nominate them as this week's KY SENT Sparkler!”

Phillips tweeted she was flattered by the unexpected recognition.

“So honored! Thank you for the shoutout! This is such an awesome opportunity,” she wrote.

She works hard each school day to provide the highest quality education for her students and reminding them that she cares.

“My classroom mission is to create an environment where each student feels loved and supported in which they can become responsible citizens and lifelong learners,” she said.

Phillips instructs AP Literature and Composition, Senior English IV and ACT Prep. She also sponsors the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Club.

She graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors from the University of Louisville in December 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Middle and Secondary Education. She completed KTIP (Kentucky Teacher Internship Program) during the 2016-2017 school year and was part of the BCPS Thinking Strategies Cadre #3 during the 2017-2018 school year.

Phillips is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Teacher Leadership, with an emphasis in English, at the University of the Cumberlands.
