North Bullitt High School senior Brooklyn Cahoe has earned the honor of Commended Student by the National Merit Scholarship Foundation.

Brooklyn is one of approximately 34,000 students in the United States recognized for their exceptional academic promise.

Commended Students placed among the Top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2020 competition by taking the preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

“I was really happy and felt that it validated my efforts in school,” said the 17 year-old daughter of Heidi Greenwell and Bill Cahoe.

Brooklyn participated in the 2019 Governor’s Scholar Program prior to starting her senior year.

Her current class schedule includes AP Government, creative writing and working as an aide for her chemistry teacher.

She departs North Bullitt daily at 10:30 a.m. to continue her education in math and political science at Jefferson Community and Technical College (JCTC).

She will graduate high school in the spring of 2020 and plans to become a biochemist to cure genetic diseases.

“I am looking forward to graduation and continuing the next phase of my life,” she said.

She encourages classmates to take opportunities given to them while they are still free.

“Don’t pass up something that may benefit your education in the future,” she said.

In a statement, NMSC officials said those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success. These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation.
