This school year, we have introduced a new program called “New Teacher Cohort.” This program allows teachers to guarantee their preparedness for the school year and address any issues or gaps, such as securing the necessary supplies, educating on specific school-based traditions, and double-checking on any procedures and tasks.
Gelena Ballard, Algebra 2 and AP Statistics teacher, presented the proposal to administration during Spring 2020. “I noticed that our new teachers were often unaware of many specific school-based traditions, procedures, and tasks -- and since we began the year with Remote Learning, many of these things were now irrelevant, i.e., fire drills, hallway supervision, bus loading/unloading, etc.” Instead, the teachers focused on setting up Google Classroom, Infinite Campus (the school grading system), and creating expectations for the beginning of the year. They also discussed where to find necessary supplies and contact information for various issues.
“Remote learning is new to all of us,” Ballard says, “My goal is simply to help other teachers navigate North Bullitt High School each day!”
