Anonymous Tipline available for students and families facing in-home challenges

prevention

The ongoing pandemic has thrown schools and students into uncharted waters, forcing many students to learn remotely for several months. Educators, mental health providers, and child protection professionals across the country are very concerned about the safety and welfare of children who have been in the home since March due to the pandemic.

Many students are still isolated and receiving online instruction. Experts fear these students may be at a greater risk of various forms of abuse, mental health concerns, and online threats, such as human trafficking or cyberbullying.

Fortunately, kids who are experiencing difficulties at home or online have options available. The Kentucky Center for School Safety (KCSS) has a School Safety Tipline Information that students or parents can call to anonymously report instances of abuse, bullying, mental health challenges, or any other difficulty a student may be facing.

KCSS Executive Director Jon Akers is recommending that all Kentucky schools include the tip line in every daily lesson so that students and their families know the resource is available. You can reach the tip line by calling (866) 393-6659.

KDE also has created a virtual bulletin board that can be downloaded with links to the Suicide Prevention Lifeline, Crisis Text Line, STOP Tipline, and the National Human Trafficking Hotline. These are the same resources required to be posted in school buildings and can literally save a life.

All of us at Bullitt County Public Schools know this is a difficult time for students and parents. You have support resources available. Do not hesitate to contact the tip line or the BCPS administrative offices if your student is facing challenges at home.
