Middle & high schools implement new A/B rotational hybrid schedule

hybrid learning schedule

Due to COVID-19, BCPS students have been remote learning from home longer than in the regular classroom setting. Ms. Adrienne Usher, Director of Elementary Education, and Ms. Rachelle Bramlage-Schomburg, Director of Secondary Education, proposed an A/B Rotation Hybrid Scheduled for grades 6-12 to the board members. Ms. Usher explains, “When we are able to return to in-person learning, the proposal is for students in grades 6-12 (families that selected in-person learning) to attend school on an AA/BB schedule for the rest of the first semester, which ends on January 5, 2021.”

The rotational hybrid schedule will go as follows:

  • Group A in-person: Monday and Tuesday

  • Groups A & B remote learning: Wednesday

  • Group B in-person: Thursday and Friday

Ms. Bramlage-Schomburg noted the benefits of the AA/BB rotational hybrid schedule: it allows the middle and high schools to have smaller groups of students (approximately half of student enrollment in each group) in the building, which will help implement COVID-19 protocols through the health services department. “In addition, the Wednesday remote learning day will allow custodial staff to sanitize that day between the groups of students in the larger school facilities,” she states. “The student learning team has also been working with secondary administration teams and instructional coaches to provide a recommended instructional framework for instructional planning and delivery in an AA/BB model.”

Board members unanimously approved to implement the proposed A/B rotational hybrid schedule for grades 6-12 for the remainder of the first semester.
