Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s)
We have some great news! First a little background information.
As you may or may not know, in August of the 2018-2019 school year the Kentucky Department of Education no longer recognized JROTC as a military readiness pathway that would fulfill a student’s transition readiness graduation requirement. JROTC is a unique and exciting program designed to teach high school students the value of citizenship, leadership, service to the community, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment while instilling self-esteem, teamwork, and self discipline. Since the decision to remove JROTC as a career pathway, enrollment has declined and our JROTC instructors, NBHS Administrators, and BCPS district staff have worked tirelessly to encourage the state to reinstate the pathway. We are excited to share with you that JROTC will be a pathway next school year, and students who successfully complete the requirements will be considered career ready and meet the transition readiness graduation requirement.
If your student would like to be enrolled in this pathway, it will be done on a student by student basis. If this affects your student, please contact your student’s counselor to change their schedule.
We are excited to once again offer this pathway and see all the benefits it affords our students, our school, and our community moving forward! As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. More information will be shared with you and your student as it is available.
