Math Meets History at BMS! 📐 As our 8th graders prepare to host a Revolutionary War Encampment for 5th graders from LJES and CGES, learning is coming to life across their classes! Former BMS teacher Major Kegan Davis, joined by Bullitt Central JROTC students, helped students connect translations, rotations, and dilations to the military drills Baron von Steuben used to train troops at Valley Forge. On Encampment Day, our 8th graders will become the teachers, leading lessons they’ve designed for our 5th-grade guests and putting their Graduate Profile competencies into action as Effective Communicators, Productive Collaborators, and Mastery Learners.

🎶 Workin’ 9 to 5… but make it Bruin Nation! 💙💚 We had a whole lot of fun celebrating 9/25 Dolly Parton Day at BMS! Everyone showed up in their best Dolly-inspired fashion, students spread a little cheer by writing kindness notes to classmates during lunch, and our staffulty got a much-needed visit from the Cup of Ambition Cart! ✨

Yesterday, our 8th graders stepped back in time with a visit from the Sons of the American Revolution! 🇺🇸 Students experienced Revolutionary War history firsthand as they explored military encampments, period clothing, soldiers’ provisions, and the Culper Spy Ring through hands-on activities and secret-message decoding. The experience was especially meaningful as our 8th graders prepare to host their own Revolutionary War Encampment later in October for 5th graders from LJ and Cedar Grove. Not only did they learn more about the Revolution, but they also got to see how to engage an audience and bring history to life!

Yesterday, 8th graders interested in pursuing a healthcare pathway had the opportunity to tour the University of Louisville School of Nursing with Mrs. Clyde! Students got an inside look at nursing education and learned more about the opportunities available to them as they begin thinking about their future education and careers.

A big Bruin thank you to Perry Cooke of Mark 12 Ministries for spending time with us last week at BMS! Mr. Cooke met with our Bears House teachers to share insight from his work developing Grace Village, a tiny home community for local veterans, helping make our 7th grade tiny home project even more authentic and connected to our community. Mark 12 Ministries is also one of our Community Contributor Carnival nonprofits! Mr. Cooke visited Mrs. Tucker’s BruCru to share more about the organization as students work to create a carnival game, booth, and service action project that will raise awareness for their work. We are grateful for community partners like Mr. Cooke who help our Bruins connect their learning to authentic needs and discover what it means to be a Community Contributor! 🐻🏠💙

This week, our 6th graders welcomed Kyle Taylor from the Ugandan Water Project as part of their cross-curricular water project! Students are exploring the importance of clean water across ELA, science, math, and social studies, with their learning culminating in our 6th Grade Water Expo on October 1. Through our Wavemaker Campaign, students are taking their learning beyond the classroom and discovering what it means to be Community Contributors who can make a global impact. 💙💚 Friday was BruCru House Day, and our Bruins officially launched the Community Contributor Carnival! Students spent the day with their BruCru advisories learning, serving, and building community. They completed team building activities centered around our Graduate Profile competencies and participated in Bruins Serve, where each BruCru completed a service activity to help make a space in our building better! Students also kicked off the Community Contributor Carnival, a schoolwide project where each BruCru will work together to create a carnival experience that raises awareness and support for a local nonprofit. Students completed hands on challenges to explore the different committees they can serve on during the project and learned about 18 local nonprofit organizations their BruCru could choose to support. The highlight of the day may have been a raucous game of Rock, Paper, Scissors ✊✋✌️ as representatives from each BruCru competed to determine the order for selecting their nonprofits! This is the kind of day that being a Bruin is all about: working together, serving others, and putting our Graduate Profile into action. 💙💚 🎪 Join us October 22 from 6:00 to 7:30 PM for the Community Contributor Carnival! We can’t wait for our community to see what our Bruins create!

💧 Learning about water from the experts! Mrs. Clack’s class welcomed the Louisville Water Company yesterday to learn more about the importance of clean water and the role it plays in our everyday lives! Our 6th graders are in the middle of a cross-curricular project exploring water through ELA, math, science, and social studies. Their learning will come together later this month at our Water Expo, where students will share what they’ve discovered with our community! We love seeing authentic learning come to life at BMS! 💙💚💧

Sponsored by the Bullitt County Partners in Prevention Coalition in conjunction with Bullitt County Public Schools, the VIP campaign recognizes students for their leadership, community involvement, achievement, and commitment to being drug, alcohol, and tobacco free. Being selected is an accomplishment! Students are nominated, complete an essay explaining why they should be selected, and participate in an interview with members of the Partners in Prevention Coalition before being chosen for the campaign. 💙💚 Congratulations to this year’s BMS VIP representatives: Macy G., Madilyn R., Emma R., Ryan C., Ella B., Jackson B., Gracie W., and Avery O.! And we love seeing former Bruins continuing to lead! Congratulations to Harper J., representing Bullitt Central, and Brinleigh G., representing ROC. We are proud of these students for representing themselves, their schools, and our Bullitt County community so well!

🍓🧬 Scientists at work! Students in Mrs. Ackermann’s class participated in their first lab of the school year, taking on the role of scientists as they extracted DNA from strawberries! A great start to a year of investigating, questioning, and discovering while growing as Mastery Learners and Productive Collaborators! 🔬🐻

There’s nothing like walking into a gym filled with cheering parents, teachers, and classmates to make these student-athletes feel like superstars. Come out, cheer loudly, and help us fill the gym with high energy for game day! Let's fill the bleachers and support our young athletes!

One of the exciting things to watch this year will be the development of our first-ever Agriculture Program at BMS! 🐰🐹🌱 Mrs. Tucker has hit the ground running, and our Bruins have already welcomed lots of new animal friends to campus! Students are getting hands-on experience learning about animal care, proper handling, responsibility, and what it takes to care for living things.

Today we’re celebrating four Bruins who are already making a difference at BMS! 👏 Ava, nominated by Mr. Goff, did a wonderful job welcoming our new students to BMS and representing us on the news. As a CEO, she is an exceptional leader at BMS and in our community and exemplifies what it means to be a Bruin! 👏 Carley, nominated by Ms. Watkins, did a great job helping with Cubs Camp this summer and welcoming our newest Bruins to BMS. She is a great leader who is always willing to do whatever is needed to help her teachers and classmates! 👏 Cameron, nominated by Ms. Harrison, stepped up to help with morning buses this week. When something was needed, Cameron was quick to share his resources and lend a hand! 👏 Wesley, nominated by Ms. Brandie, shows all the qualities of a great Bruin. He is respectful, polite, and always willing to step up and help—even when he doesn’t have to. He sets a great example for others to follow! EVER. 💙💚🐻 There’s no better way to begin a new chapter of Our Story than the way we did today at BMS! ✨ We celebrated our newest Bruins, welcomed our new teachers, facilitated friendships, connected with one another, got interviewed on the news 🎥, and celebrated together at our first Renaissance Rally! Today was filled with the people, moments, and energy that make Bruin Nation so special. Year 2026–27 is officially underway, and if today is any indication, this is going to be one incredible story. 💫

Lady Bruins Basketball Tryouts will take place on Wednesday August 12th and Thursday August 13th from 3:15-5:15. Any girl interested in trying out should bring their basketball bag and items needed to school with them as they will stay after for tryouts. Items may include water bottle, basketball shoes and change of clothes. Your child must have a current sports physical on file to compete.
