Roby Elementary School's third grade students recently embarked on an exciting journey into the world of mysteries through a captivating Authentic Learning Experience. This process challenged students to become Productive Collaborators as they delved into the intricacies of creating compelling mystery stories.

The students' main products included a reading journal, a mystery story crafted by each group, illustrations for their stories, and an exciting element—a series of podcasts created and shared by the students themselves. Utilizing a variety of technologies such as Padlet, Jamboard, podcasts, and Flipgrid, the students explored different facets of storytelling and technology integration.

Guided by the Graduate Profile competency of being Productive Collaborators, student groups were tasked with answering the driving question: "How can we, as authors, make mystery readers keep turning the page?" This question led to a series of engaging "need to know" inquiries, including exploring the reasons behind the popularity of mystery stories and the key elements of a captivating mystery narrative.

Aligned with various reading content standards, students not only developed their narrative and storytelling skills but also honed their ability to analyze and compare different literary texts. Through the process, students learned to flexibly use a variety of comprehension strategies, enhancing their independent reading and analysis skills.

RES Principal Hannah Scott expressed her excitement about the project, stating, "The Mystery PBL at Roby Elementary has been a fantastic journey for our students. It's amazing to see how they've embraced the challenge of creating their own mystery stories and podcasts. This project has not only fostered their creativity but also strengthened their collaboration skills, setting a great example of our commitment to Authentic Learning."

Roby 3rd Grade Caregiver (teacher) Jaime Bruffy also commended the students, saying, "We are so proud of our students as they showcased their dedication and enthusiasm throughout this project. They have demonstrated exceptional teamwork and creativity, producing high-quality work that reflects their deep engagement with the subject matter."

This Authentic Learning Experience at Roby stands as a testament to the school's dedication to providing innovative and engaging learning experiences for students, empowering them to explore their creativity, collaborate effectively, and become lifelong learners.
