Yesterday, Beckett stepped into the role of PE Teacher for the Day, and he absolutely rose to the challenge!

From demonstrating activities to encouraging classmates and helping lead our lessons, Beckett showed exactly what our CREATE expectation looks like at OMES. He confidently shared ideas, thought on his feet, and found ways to make learning fun and engaging for everyone.

Beckett also demonstrated several of the Bullitt County Graduate Profile Competencies:
⭐ Effective Communicator – Clearly explained directions, modeled expectations, and spoke with confidence.
⭐ Collaborator – Worked alongside classmates while encouraging and supporting others.
⭐ Self-Directed Navigator – Took initiative, accepted responsibility, and led with confidence.
⭐ Productive Contributor – Stayed focused, solved problems, and helped create a positive learning environment.

Way to lead by example, Beckett! We are so proud of the leadership, creativity, and character you brought to PE today. Keep shining! 💙🐨🏃‍♂️

The final superpower, the one that brings it all together: HERO. 🦸‍♀️🦸‍♂️
Today's lesson hit different. Our students learned that being a Super Hero isn't about flying or having super speed. It's about the choices you make every single day. Kindness, taking action, standing up for what's right.
And then came the moment that lit up the room: "You're already Super Heroes!" Steady, Uplifter, Purpose, Extra Mile, Reliable. These powers were living inside our students from the beginning. This heroic quest just helped them realize the power they already had.
Their chant today says it all: "Super Heroes lead with heart, Super Heroes from the start."
Tomorrow is the Fun Run! Our heroes are ready. Here's the game plan for tonight: good sleep, water bottle packed, healthy breakfast in the morning, and comfy shoes. Two big rules for tomorrow: do your best, and have fun. ❤️

Today's superpower: Reliable. 🔒
Our students learned that being Reliable means living by a simple rule: "I do what I say I'll do, I show up when others need me, and I follow through even when it's not easy." Reliable heroes tell the truth, do their best, and stay true to what's right, not just what's popular. They prove their character through their actions, day after day.
One of our favorite lines from today's lesson: "Pressure makes diamonds." Taking on hard challenges head-on and solving problems makes you come out stronger and brighter on the other side.
Their leadership challenge today is a special one: write a note to their principal or give them a high five in the hallway and thank them for being a reliable leader at our school. 💛

Today was a day of learning, reflecting, and growing together at Old Mill! 💙💛 Our teachers dove deeper into our schoolwide instructional goals of vocabulary, rigor, and transformational learning, reflecting on how we can continue strengthening learning experiences for every student. We also spent time learning more about a platform that will support our Student Showcases this spring, helping our students capture their growth, reflect on their learning, and share their accomplishments with others! 🌟 We are excited about the work ahead and, most importantly, the impact it will have on our Koalas!

New superpower unlocked: Extra Mile. 💪
Today our students learned that Super Heroes don't do the bare minimum. Going the Extra Mile means helping someone clean up even when you didn't make the mess. Giving your best effort even when you're tired. Noticing a classmate sitting alone and inviting them to join you. Heroes don't say "that's not my problem." They say "how can I help?"
The big takeaway: the extra mile is where most people stop, but it's where leaders show up.
Their leadership challenge: find one moment today to go the extra mile, at school or at home. Help someone, work harder, or do something kind that you didn't have to do. 💛

Weekend mission for our Super Hero families! 📲
Pick 5 people to share your student's pledge page with. Grandparents, coworkers, neighbors, old friends. People from anywhere in the world can pledge, and it takes just a minute.
Share directly from your student's page on myapexevent.com. Every pledge supports our school and helps raise funds for Outdoor Play Space.
The first three shares mean the most! Who's your first share going to? 💛

Mastery Learners in Action! Our 3rd graders have been hard at work this week adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers using a variety of strategies! Students aren’t just finding the answer; they’re building their understanding, choosing strategies that work for them, and explaining their mathematical thinking. 🧠 We love seeing our Mastery Learners persevere, apply their learning, and grow as mathematicians! 💪

Superpower of the week: Purpose. 🎯
Today our students learned that Purpose means knowing your "why" and letting it guide your choices. Not just going through the motions, but moving with real direction toward the things that matter to you. They talked about how staying focused is tough when distractions are everywhere.
The lesson used Stephen Curry as an example: the NBA's all-time leading three-point scorer didn't get there overnight. He practiced thousands of shots, day after day, even when he was tired. Those small steps, repeated with real effort, built something incredible. The same is true for our students.
Their leadership challenge: do one thing today that shows the kind of person you want to become. At the end of the day, check in and ask: "Did my actions match the purpose I want to live out?" 💛

Mark your calendars...High Attendance Day is Wednesday, September 9! 🎉

We have some exciting incentives planned:

⭐ Our PTO is sponsoring Tat the Teacher; every student who attends will get to give their teacher a temporary tattoo!

🍧 Every classroom with 100% attendance will earn a popsicle party!

🎟️ Golden Ticket drawings will happen throughout the day, and every student present will be entered to win!

🏫 If OMES reaches 98% attendance, Mrs. Joiner will greet students from the roof the next school day!

Let’s show up, Koalas! 💙💛🐨
