Let’s gear up to celebrate a fun-filled Field Day together!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and it’s a good reminder that our kids need extra moments this month to check in—ask how they’re feeling, make space for quiet time, and show them it’s okay to talk about emotions.
The little things we do every day can help our children grow up feeling safe, heard, and supported. We appreciate your continued partnership Old Mill families!

Our 4th graders wrapped up their novel study of The Wild Robot in the most creative way—by becoming engineers! This week, they put their imaginations and problem-solving skills to work, designing and building their very own robots. From concept to creation, these projects brought literature to life through hands-on learning.

Mrs. Joiner has been kicking back a bit these past two weeks thanks to some amazing leadership on campus!
Meet our Principals of the Day—Hadley Boone and Ardyn Grady! These two student leaders took charge, made big decisions, and helped keep things running smoothly at Old Mill!

💙❤️ CATS vs. CARDS: The KASA Challenge is ON! ❤️💙
We’re joining forces across Bullitt County to raise funds for Special Olympics Kentucky—a cause that’s close to our hearts here at Old Mill as we launch our own Special Olympics program this year! 🏅
🎯 Our school goal: $800
🙌 The twist? Whichever team wins, Mrs. Joiner will wear their gear ALL WEEK! So if you’re Team Cats or Team Cards, now’s the time to show it!
🗓️ Donate anytime between now and May 21—buckets are at the school!
Let’s blow our goal out of the water and make a big impact for an incredible cause. 💪

Please join us in welcoming Mrs. Rachel Ellis to our school team! She is joining our Related Arts rotation as the new Global Explorations teacher for K–2. 🎉
Ms. Ellis brings 14 years of classroom experience and a heart full of passion for helping students connect with the world around them. In Global Explorations, our youngest learners will get to experience cultures, traditions, and stories from around the globe in ways that are meaningful, hands-on, and fun!
We can’t wait for our kids to travel the world—right from the heart of Old Mill! 🌎💛✈️

We hope everyone has an amazing three day weekend!

Happy National Principal Day to Mrs. Joiner!
Your leadership sets the tone for everything we do at OMES. You are always going above and beyond—not just in the big decisions, but in the countless small ways you show up for students, staff, and families every day. Shout-out to Too A Tee for showing their appreciation to our staff with a sweet surprise—delicious cookies for all! We’re grateful for their continued partnership and support of all things school spirit wear. Thank you for helping us celebrate our team in such a thoughtful way!

It’s Student Appreciation Week at Old Mill!
Our amazing PTO is helping us celebrate the very best part of our school—our students! Each day this week, we’re doing a little something special to show our kids just how much they are loved, valued, and appreciated. From sweet treats to fun surprises, it’s all about reminding them that they make Old Mill the wonderful place it is!
Thank you to our PTO for helping make this week full of smiles!

Shout out to Ms. Kromenacker and Mr. Ezell for completing the Thrive program—Bullitt County’s support program for first-year teachers! These two have gone above and beyond all expectations this year, and we couldn’t be prouder. Old Mill is truly lucky to have their energy, dedication, and heart pouring into our students each day!

This week's student spotlight goes outs to Avery Millard. "Avery noticed that her math partner had missed a few days of instruction and was confused with the concept of subtracting mixed numbers. Avery stepped right in without being asked, and talked her math partner through the process, step by step! This is a tricky concept for many of our fourth graders, and Avery explained it correctly and efficiently! Great job being a productive collaborator, AND a mastery learner, Avery! I am so proud of you!" -Mrs. Dixon

We're growing something special at OMES—and we need your help! Our school garden is in need of donations such as twigs, dead leaves, mulch, top soil, worms, water bulbs, food waste(fruit and veggies). If you’d like to support our young gardeners, please consider contributing. Every little bit helps our garden (and students!) thrive.

Shout out to Mrs. Clarissa Polson!
Her heart for her students shines brightly each and every day. As a 2nd grade teacher, she pours genuine love and care into everything she does, and it shows in the way her kids thrive. We are so thankful for the kindness, dedication, and heart she brings to Old Mill!

Our Lost and Found is overflowing! If your child is missing a jacket, water bottle, lunchbox, or any other item, please check the Lost and Found area as soon as possible. All unclaimed items will be donated after Thursday afternoon. Don’t miss your chance to reclaim lost belongings!

This morning, we celebrated our incredible bus drivers and lunch heroes with a special breakfast and heartfelt, handwritten cards from our students. Their dedication, kindness, and behind-the-scenes work keep our school running smoothly every day. We’re so grateful for the care they show our kids—whether it’s with a warm meal or a safe ride. Thank you for being everyday heroes!

At Old Mill, we believe in lifting each other up, celebrating every success, and making each day brighter for our students. If that sounds like the place you want to call home, we would love to hear from you! 💛

Today we had the privilege of honoring our Purple Star military kids! These are the kids who currently have a parent serving in one of the branches of our Armed Services. These kids show bravery, strength, resiliency, and courage as their parent serves our country. It is with our deepest gratitude that we honor the sacrifices made by our military children. We are so proud to have them at Old Mill!
