We are excited about some upcoming events happening at ZMS! The Scholastic Book Fair will be available for students October 24-28, more information to come after fall break! There is a ZMS Title I Fall Literacy Night October 27 from 5:30-7:30. All ZMS families are invited! You can shop the Book Fair and participate in all sorts of fun activities. Finally, as part of our Literacy Night, we are hosting a pumpkin decorating contest. Pumpkins must be bought and painted at home NOT CARVED (don't want anything smelly!!) We will be voting on the each grade level's favorite on the literacy night. Students may begin bringing in the pumpkins after fall break until Oct 27.
7th and 8th graders are studying the aspects of the BCPS graduate profile and applying these concepts to their studies.
REMINDER: Fall Picture Day is TOMORROW. We encourage students to dress up for their pictures.

This week in Mrs. Spratt's 7th grade science classes, students have been learning about energy transfers. They enjoyed doing experiments and seeing science in action!
September is Childhood Cancer month. This affects families in the BCPS area, and we are sponsoring multiple events for this cause. See the image for full details!
Last week, students enjoyed their first visits to the ZMS Library! They "tasted" different books the library has to offer, learned about upcoming reading challenges, checked out books and explored the Makerspace corner that has many STEM activities. 📚 💚
Students have been enjoying lunch time together these first days of school!

Thank you to those who attended our Open House last Thursday! It was a great turnout, with over 300 families. It was so nice to see smiling faces before school starts on Wednesday. If you missed it, here's a few things you should know:
🟢 $35 Chromebook fee can be paid online through MySchoolBucks OR students can bring cash/check to pay their seminar (homeroom) teacher. Students who pay before Wednesday will receive theirs during the first day.
🟢 Schedules- please make sure your student has been registered online. Once that happens, we can populate the schedule. All students will be gathered in the gym first thing. Teachers will have copies of their schedule as well as lead their homeroom students to their classrooms!
🟢 Dress Code/Supply list are online via our website
🟢 Doors open for students at 7:40 on Wednesday! Please refer to the previous post about the car rider traffic flow and bus finder info.

Every BCPS student receives a Chromebook for instruction OR families may purchase their own. Students who use a BCPS device:
➡️ $35 fee annually covers 1 free accidental part repair and monitoring software.
➡️ Fee can be paid online at MySchoolBucks
➡️ Cash/check only in person at Open House Aug 4 or first few days of school
➡️ 7/8 graders will use the same device from last year, 6th graders will get new devices
