Student Shoutouts of the week: Lily Kimball and Ramelo Massey!
Ms. Parsons says Lily demonstrates Accountability: "Lily has been doing AMAZING in band! She is a talented musician and has been 1st chair trumpet for several months." Mrs. Voight says "Ramelo has been a leader in our 5th period enrichment class. He is always willing to volunteer and help his peers understand concepts. He's been a joy to teach!"
Students in Mrs. Lagowskis 8th grade ELA classes are collaborating together to analyze how historical context impacts the theme and characters in a novel, using evidence from the text. They are working on a novel study about the Holocaust using The Boy in the Striped Pajamas.
Next Thursday 3/13, ZMS is hosting a Math Night! All ZMS families are invited to connect with ZMS staff and have some fun with games, food, and hear a special concert from the ZMS Band! Hope to see you join us from 5:30-7:00pm
Cheer Clinics are starting soon! Open to any current 5th-7th grader to prep for next school year's cheer season.
Alex Leyva-Pena was selected to represent ZMS with Ashley Eskridge to participle in FRYSC Page Day. He was nominated and selected to represent State Representative Emily Callaway from Jefferson County. They were able to tour the capital and attend a legislative session in the House of Representatives, and even saw Governor Beshear! Alex represented our PACK well.
Mr Dawson truly embodies the principle that 'Students Matter Most.' Known for creating a welcoming and engaging classroom, Mr. Dawson goes the extra mile to ensure every student feels valued and supported. From hands-on experiments that spark curiosity to taking the time to connect with students individually, he builds meaningful relationships that inspire both academic growth and personal confidence. His unwavering dedication reminds us all of the power of putting students at the heart of everything we do!
Mr. Dawson is also a former ZMS student, now instructing the next generation of Timberwolves!
PACK student shout outs this week are Bailey Yahnig and Riley Capshaw. The 6th grade teachers say Bailey exhibits Accountability: Is always prepared and has always followed expectations. She never has a bad attitude and comes to class ready to learn. She is such a pleasure to have in class. From all the 6th grade teachers."
Ms. Parsons says Riley shows Kindness "Riley is a true example of kindness toward everyone she meets. She genuinely cares for people and is a positive light in our Zoneton community. I will miss her so much when she moves on to high school!"
Spring Picture Day is coming up! Students are bringing home info packet/pre order forms today.
Students in Ms Hayes' social studies classes are collaborating together to break down the meaning of primary source documents. This will help them to be able to write using historical evidence from the texts.

ZMS Families, due to continuing weather conditions, Thursday 2-20-25 will be BCPS NTI #6. We want to assure you that instruction and learning doesn't stop even though it's virtual! Here is some updated information on NTI procedures at ZMS. Teachers are available the entire school day for assistance, but we are now offering specific office hour Google Meets by content in the afternoon. Students, all links to Meets are found on Google Classroom. Thanks for your understanding in this challenging winter!

Forgive the hiatus on shoutout posts, the past few weeks have been a bit unorthodox! Today we have two staff shoutouts: Ms. Sharp and Mrs. Spratt! We appreciate their hard work and dedication to ZMS. They are both great leaders of our PACK 🐺💚
Last week the North Bullitt HS band director and 17 high school band students visited the ZMS band! They tutored small groups on instruments and our band students gained valuable experience with them.
Heads up ZMS student athletes, some events have been changed due to NTI/weather!
* Girls' soccer practice has been moved to the FREEDOM ES GYM tonight 2-17 from 5-7pm
* Boys' soccer tryouts have been moved once again AND location change- ZMS GYM on 2/18 and 2/20 from 5-7
*Boys' Baseball tryouts still on 2/18 but changed to 7 pm.

February 15 is National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day!! We are so grateful for Officer Priddy and K9 Vader. They do amazing things for our students and Vader brings out a smile in everyone who sees him. (Shoutout to Carla Asbury for this amazing shot!)

We are super proud of our ZMS Archery team who competed in two tournaments recently! Here are some results and an important shoutout from other schools' coaches:

➼ 11 archers shot their career high scores

➼Max Willoughby came in 5th place

A note from Coach Stewart: "compliments that I received from two other school coaches from the second tournament. The coaches really appreciated how our archers stepped in and helped the younger archers from the other schools in scoring and making them feel part of the tournament. The coaches really appreciated the sportsmanship and the courtesy that our archers showed towards other archers. This made me very proud as a coach that our student-athletes represented our school, our team and themselves in a professional manner. "
