April 2025 — Shepherdsville, KY — Bullitt County Public Schools (BCPS) is proud to announce that it will receive $82,000 in funding as part of a $125,000 grant awarded to Metro United Way by Ford Philanthropy. The funds will directly support BCPS’ McKinney-Vento Program, which serves students experiencing homelessness by addressing critical barriers to their academic success and stability.
Transportation challenges are among the leading causes of chronic absenteeism, disengagement from school, and missed opportunities for employment or extracurricular participation, especially for students without stable housing. Thanks to this grant, BCPS will be able to provide gas cards, part-time van driver services, and academic supports. Grant funding will allow BCPS to hire additional McKinney-Vento educators who will focus specifically on helping students with tutoring, credit recovery, attendance interventions, and college and career readiness activities, creating additional pathways to success for up to 500 students.
“This support from Ford Philanthropy, facilitated by our partners at Metro United Way, enables us to remove one of the most basic yet critical barriers to student success: getting to and staying engaged in school,” said Dr. Jesse Bacon, BCPS Superintendet. “It’s a step toward making sure every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed, no matter their zip code.”
The grant covers the 2025–26 and 2026–27 school years, allowing BCPS to invest in academic interventions and transportation solutions that align with our mission to inspire and equip our students to succeed in life. All funding will be used in accordance with Ford’s philanthropic guidelines. (The purchase of a new vehicle is not included in the grant’s allowable expenses.)
The community will celebrate this milestone with a check presentation ceremony during the BCPS Board of Education meeting on May 19, 2025.
BCPS expresses deep gratitude to Ford Philanthropy and Metro United Way for their continued partnership in addressing the unique needs of students in our community.
