2027 Kentucky Teacher Achievement Award

SHEPHERDSVILLE, KY — Bullitt County Public Schools (BCPS) is incredibly proud to announce that Amanda O’Bryan, an outstanding educator at Old Mill Elementary School, has been named a recipient of the prestigious 2027 Kentucky Teacher Achievement Award by the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE).

Out of 600 teacher nominations submitted from across the Commonwealth, O’Bryan was chosen as one of only nine statewide winners. With this honor, she is also an official nominee for the 2027 Kentucky Teacher of the Year Award, which will be announced this fall.

"We are absolutely thrilled for Mrs. O’Bryan and incredibly proud to have her representing Bullitt County Public Schools on the state stage," said Dr. Jesse Bacon, BCPS Superintendent. "This recognition is a testament to her unwavering dedication, passion for her students, and the high standard of excellence she brings to Old Mill Elementary every single day. She truly embodies our district's mission to inspire and equip our students to succeed in life."

A qualified panel of veteran educators judged the pool of 600 nominees based on their teaching experiences, involvement in their respective communities, teaching philosophies, and letters of recommendation from peers, students, families, and administrators.

O’Bryan, representing the elementary school division, is one of just three elementary educators in the entire state to receive this milestone achievement.

"Our incredibly dedicated Teacher Achievement Award winners represent some of our best talent in the state," said Commissioner of Education Robbie Fletcher. "We are so proud of the highly skilled educators across our state, and it is an honor to be able to recognize these outstanding professionals. These teachers truly embody what it means to go above and beyond in helping students prepare for their future."

O’Bryan and her fellow eight award recipients will be formally honored during a ceremony in Frankfort on Sept. 9, 2026. During the event, KDE will announce the winners of the elementary, middle, and high school teaching divisions. From those three finalists, one exceptional educator will be named the 2027 Kentucky Teacher of the Year, earning a $10,000 cash prize and the opportunity to take a six-month sabbatical with KDE. During the sabbatical, the Kentucky Teacher of the Year will serve as an ambassador for the teaching profession across the state.

The entire BCPS community congratulates Amanda O’Bryan on this remarkable achievement and wishes her the best of luck as she moves on to the finals in September.
