Today's student spotlight goes out to Olivia Briney and Ary Valle. "These two precious young ladies went out of their way at recess to track down and play with a friend who was sad at recess. They left the games they were playing because they knew a classmate was in need of a friend. They spent their recess time being kind and selfless. " -Mrs. Watson

This week's student spotlight goes out to Xavier Culver. "During Tuesday nights basketball games, Xavier showed great sportsmanship and cooperation. He was a team player making sure all his classmates got a chance to shoot the ball and when the other team lost the ball while dribbling accidently he passed it right back to the other team to try again and kept playing! He was a great example of how we treat everyone with kindness and a great team player!" -Mrs. Foushee

We are so close to meeting our goal of $5,000!! There is still time to register. Through registration, you will have the opportunity to take steps to complete Finn's mission where students will learn life saving steps in recognizing signs of a stroke and how to complete 2-step CPR. Help us to make a difference and to educate students on life saving practices!

Shout out to Mrs. Boston and Mrs. Compton for representing Old Mill Elementary at the KYSTE Conference! They did an incredible job presenting on the cross-curricular integration of STEAM and PE through their Top Golf unit, highlighting how they incorporate BCPS Graduate Profile competencies, essential standards, and PBL practices into their teaching. A big thank you to Mrs. Mason, Mrs. Boston, and Mrs. Compton for also spending the week at KYSTE, learning and bringing back new ideas to elevate student learning.

We are so excited to announce that we are halfway to meeting our goal of $5,000 of the Kid's Heart Heroes Challenge! The weekend may be quickly come to an end, but we love hearing about how our Old Mill families spent their time outside of school! Whether it was sports, family adventures, relaxing at home, or something fun and unexpected—drop a comment or photo below and let us know!

This week, our students practiced their overhand and underhand throwing skills while also putting their literacy knowledge to the test—each successful throw helped them build words along the way! We love seeing creativity and movement come together in learning.

This week our students brought their energy, teamwork, and sportsmanship to the court during our class basketball games! It’s been great to see them challenge themselves, cheer each other on, and have so much fun along the way. What a great week at Old Mill! 💙💛

At Old Mill, we believe learning should be engaging, and our teachers bring that vision to life every day! This week, our 5th graders had a blast subtracting fractions thanks to interactive games woven into their math lessons. Seeing students excited about problem-solving and fully engaged in learning is what it’s all about!
